Die Todesstrafe ist keine angemessene Antwort auf Mord und Kriminalität. Wo sich der Staat zum Richter über Leben und Tod aufschwingt, nimmt nicht Gerechtigkeit ihren Lauf, sondern Rache und Vergeltung.
Die Botschaft von Amnesty International lautet deshalb unmissverständlich: Staaten können nicht gleichzeitig die Menschenrechte achten und die Todesstrafe verhängen und vollstrecken.
Aus diesem Grund setzt sich Amnesty International seit über 30 Jahren gegen diese Strafe ein. Und dies mit zunehmendem Erfolg: Immer mehr Staaten schaffen diese Strafe ab. Dennoch bleibt noch viel zu tun, Jahr für Jahr werden tausende Menschen hingerichtet. (Amnesty International)

Death row Iranian teenager awaiting execution when he turns 18
NCRI – A 16-year-old boy has been sentenced to death in Iran for accidentally killing a friend during a brawl – and will be kept on death row until he can be ‚legally‘ executed at the age of 18.
The youth named as Abolfazl was arrested while in the 9th grade on a charge of killing another youngster during a drunken brawl. The family of the victim has asked for blood money to forgo his execution.
The state-run Tabnak website reported on February 9: „In four months, Abolfazl will be 17 and his remaining days are passing quickly. He will the be leaving the correction center to face the death penalty when he reaches the age of 18.
Abolfazl said: „I miss my father. Nine months ago when I was here they said that my father had passed away. He was 40. He was a hard-working laborer and loved me very much. He went out of his way to get what I wanted if possible. When I heard he had passed away I cried a lot. I wished I could have seen him, but they did not allow me. They did not even allow me to go to his funeral. „From the outset I did not have a lawyer and I defended myself. They got me a lawyer on the last day, but to no avail.“

Also here are some talking points
(1) Despite the fact that they all have housing and employment plans set up. Why is the parole board overlooking this and still denying parole for The Move 9?
(2) Two members of The Parole Board Randy Feathers and Lloyd White are former Police officers. Why are their two former police officers sitting over a case that centers around the frame up and murder of a police officer?
(3) At least seven of the eight remaining Move Members that are in prison have all been recommended for parole by the Superintendent and Wardens respectively of their institutions. Why is The Pa Parole Board ignoring these recommendations?

THE CASE:
In Philadelphia on October 22, 1991, a young woman named Chedell Williams went to the Fern Rock subway station to buy a transit pass. At approximately 1:50 p.m. she was approached by two men, one of whom demanded her gold earrings and shot her. These two men then ran to a getaway car, where a third accomplice drove them away. By all accounts, the crime took place in mere seconds, and in those few seconds, Miss Williams tragically lost her life. She was only 17.
Jimmy Dennis was convicted of this crime and given a death sentence, yet he has steadfastly maintained his innocence. After several months of thoroughly studying his case, collecting and reading the documents (including police statements, the trial transcript, and appeal brief), we- an international volunteer group of supporters- have concluded that the facts in this case fully support his innocence.

Save Muhammad Asghar, Scottish schizophrenic condemned to death in Pakistan for blasphemy
Muhammad Asghar is a 68 year old from Edinburgh, currently resident in Pakistan. He has been convicted of blasphemy following a trial where his legal team were dismissed, and the state nominated replacement presented no evidence in his defence. He is a paranoid schizophrenic with a history of mental illness, a fact very relevant to his alleged crime; declaring himself a prophet. Muhammad Asghar should be helped, not killed. We ask that David Cameron and Alex Salmond intervene in the strongest possible terms, to help save the life of a vulnerable British man.
STOP THE EXECUTION OF SUZANNE BASSO
Suzanne Basso inmate #999329# currently resides at the Estelle Unit, where she has been almost her entire period on Death Row. The Estelle Unit is a unit for men, She suffers severe mental health issues, and is otherwise very ill and dependent on diapers and a wheelchair, because she is paralyzed from her chest down. So ill, no women’s facility in the entire State can accommodate her needs.

Clarence Moses-El has been in prison since 1987, when he was sentenced to 48 years in jail for a crime he did not commit. He has maintained his innocence since the beginning. The three people originally identified as suspects by the victim were never arrested nor were they ever questioned.

Dennis McGuire was pronounced dead at the Southern Ohio and was executed painfully because of experimentalchemicals

Dear Governor,
This morning at 10:53 Dennis McGuire was pronounced dead at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville. The initial reports were that Mr. McGuire died peacefully. However, I now understand that to be incorrect.
The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that Mr. McGuire struggled for air, just as attorneys arguing on McGuire’s behalf opposing the use of the new, experimentalchemicals warned would happen:
After being injected at 10:29 a.m., about four minutes later McGuire started struggling and gasping loudly for air, making snorting and choking sounds which lasted for at least 10 minutes. His chest heaved and his left fist clenched as deep, snorting sounds emanated from his mouth.
What a shame of Ohio’s “Hang ‘em high ethos”
In accord with the Council of Europe I am calling upon you, Governor Kasich, to issue an immediate moratorium on all executions until the Ohio Supreme Court’s Joint Task Force completes its thorough review of Ohio’s death penalty system.
