FEAR NATION
Artikel vom 31. Oktober 2014[col. writ. 10/31/14] © ’14 Mumia Abu-Jamal
If you squint your eyes, and look at TV news, all you’ll see — no matter which channel you choose — is fear.
Ebola. Isis. Car crashes. Plane crashes. Train crashes. Murder – and mayhem.
In essence, fear.
American TV is awash in a cold splash of fear. Indeed, virtually every channel is tuned to Fear TV.
And there’s a method to the […] -

In Mexico, fires are burning.
I mean this metaphorically — and literally.
For thousands of youth feel the heated indignation against their corrupt government, as shown by their Oct. 13th protest and the firing of government buildings in Chilpancingo, Guerrero State, Mexico.
Why did they set the buildings ablaze?
They were marking the deadline when government officials were told to return some 43 […] -

The new prisoner gag law
Artikel vom 30. Oktober 2014Anyone even remotely familiar with my case knows about the “Mumia Rule.” That’s when the court or agency changes its rule or precedent to go against me. When Amnesty International wrote about my case, that was its essential focus: that laws and precedents that applied to other cases would be changed when it came to me.
In fact, when my habeas corpus case went before the […] -

Mumia Abu Jamal Speaks to DN! from Prison About Pennsylvania’s New Law Censoring Convicts‘ Speech (14.5.2019)
Artikel vom 28. Oktober 2014
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett has signed into law a bill that critics say tramples the free speech rights of prisoners. The “Revictimization Relief Act” authorizes the censoring of public addresses of prisoners or former offenders if judges agree that allowing them to speak would cause “mental anguish” to the victim. The measure was introduced after one of the state’s most famous prisoners, journalist and former […]

Brothas, Sistas;
To the Movement in Texas against the death penalty: Ona Move!
It’s been years since I’ve spoken out against the death penalty in Texas. The last time (I believe was on behalf of Bro. Shaka Sankofa — a brilliant young man, who grew to proud Black manhood in the shadow of the Death House.
A young man who would be […] -

Justice Suspended
Artikel vom 24. Oktober 2014
The headline ”Justice Suspended” in the middle right hand column of a northeast Pennsylvania newspaper caught my eye. And for the briefest of moments I pondered its possible meanings.
Had justice indeed been suspended in Pennsylvania? I thought of the hundreds of men, over 600 at last count, who were juveniles when they were sent to prison for life in Pennsylvania.
In 2013, the U.S. Supreme […] -

Artikel vom 22. Oktober 2014Veröffentlicht am 21.10.2014
http://democracynow.org – Pennsylvania Republican Gov. Tom Corbett is set to sign into law a bill critics say will trample the free speech rights of prisoners. Last week, lawmakers openly said they passed the legislation as a way to target one of the state’s most well-known prisoners: journalist and former Black Panther, Mumia Abu-Jamal, who was convicted in 1982 […]
