IRAN: 40 PRISONERS EXECUTED
July 5, 2013: At least 40 people have been hanged in Iran in the last week.
According to the state run Iranian news agency Fars six prisoners, who were not identified by name, were hanged on July 4 in the prison of Bam (Kerman Province, Southeastern Iran) early in the morning.
The prisoners were allegedly convicted of trafficking 339 kilograms of heroin and 191 kilograms of opium said the report.
According to reliable sources that Iran Human Rights (IHR) has been in contact with, 21 prisoners were hanged in the Ghezel Hesar prison of Karaj on July 2.
17 of the prisoners belonged to the Gehzelhesar prison while 4 prisoners had been transferred from other prisons to Ghezelhesar for implementation of the execution.
One of the prisoners transferred from Rajai Shahr Prison was identified as „Mohsen Jahanbakhsh“ born in 1977. Mr. Jahanbakhsh was sentenced to death by the judge Salavati, convicted of Moharebeh (war against God) for participation in armed robbery. His family were not informed about the execution and they were not given the opportunity of visiting him for the last time.
Identities of the other 20 prisoners are not known at the present moment but it has been reported that most of them were convicted of „Moharebeh“, „corruption on earth“ and drug related charges.
According to IHR’s sources in Iran four prisoners were hanged in the Rajai Shahr Prison of Karaj (west of Tehran) on July 3. The prisoners were all convicted of murder and three of them are identified as „Mohammad Jafari“, „Ali Yadegari“ and „Karim Taraj“.
Four prisoners were hanged on June 30 in two different cities.
According to the official Iranian news agency IRNA two prisoners convicted of rape were hanged publicly in the city of Karaj (west of Tehran). The prisoners were identified as Arash Molaei (20 year old) and Behnam Sohrabi (24 year old) and were convicted of raping two girls in 2011.
Two other prisoners were hanged in the prison of Khoramabad (Lorestan Province) convicted of possession and trafficking of 2189 grams of the narcotic drug crystal, reported the Iranian state broadcasting.
Five people were hanged on June 29 for several crimes.
The first prisoner was hanged publicly in „Salman Farsi“ crossing of Ahwaz, reported the state run Iranian news agency Fars. The prisoner was identified as „M. T.“ and was convicted of buying and selling 17 kilos and 826 grams of psychostimulant drugs and selling 700 grams of crystal, said the report. The public hanging took place in the morning.
One prisoner was hanged in the prison of Gachsaran (western Iran) in the morning. He was a „young man“ identified as „A.S.“ who was convicted of murdering another man identified as „Mohsen Hosseini-Nik“ in 2006, reported Fars news agency. The report didn’t mention the age of the prisoner.
According to „Human rights and democracy activists in Iran“ (HRDAI) three prisoners among them one Afghan citizen were hanged in the prison of Zahedan. The prisoners were identified as „Aref Noorzahi“ (Afghan citizen), Shir Mohammad Kashani, and Ghorbanali Soori. The report has not been announced by the official sources yet.
On July 2nd, the International Committee Against Stoning received information from Tabriz prison that two people had been sentenced to death by stoning. Zarah Saee and Ali Saee, cousins from a village in East Azerbaijan Province in Iran, are accused by the Islamic regime of having had sex outside of marriage. The sentence was handed down by the Supreme Court and confirmed by the Chief Justice Sadeq Larijani.
The International Committee Against Stoning also heard from several news sources that there were two more people who had been sentenced to death by stoning in Tabriz prison – Mohammad Reza Jamali and his wife Khadija Mohammad Ali Zadeh, who is a women’s rights activist.
