Pierre Lambert, 1920-2008
Pierre Boussel-Lambert was born in 1920 and joined the French workforce and labor movement at the age of 14, joining up with militants who went on to found the Fourth International in 1938. During the Nazi occupation of France during World War II, Lambert was a central leader of the underground General Confederation of Workers (CGT) trade union federation, heading up its metalworkers federation. During his long trade union and political career, Lambert held many leadership positions in his country, representing in particular the Social Security workers union. He was a staunch defender of the independence of the trade unions in relation to the state, an advocate of working class independent political action, and a avid proponent of working class internationalism.
